Questions and Answers
Common Inquiries
How much do you charge for a house call?
My base charge is $50 within 20 miles of Williams, Oregon. I do charge an additional $10 for each additional 10 miles of travel (i.e. 20-30 miles is a $60 house call fee, 30-40 miles is a $70 house call fee).
My pet needs a vaccine, allergy injection, or arthritis injection. Can you provide this service?
Yes! However, I don't carry any inventory of my own. I will partner with your primary veterinarian to pick up whatever your pet needs. Your pet needs to be current on his/her yearly exam in order for me to provide these services. The charges for any products I pick up from your veterinarian will be paid directly to the veterinary practice, and my house call fees will be paid directly to me.
Can you give my pet a Rabies vaccine?
Unfortunately, I cannot. According to Oregon state law, the Rabies vaccine needs to be given under direct supervision of the veterinarian, which means on the same premises as the veterinarian.
Can you euthanize my pet at my home?
Unfortunately, I cannot. Since the drugs used to perform humane euthanasia are controlled, I am not licensed to carry or administer these drugs. It has to be done by a licensed veterinarian. Please contact me for a list of mobile veterinarians who do provide this service.
Can you draw blood for a heartworm test or recheck blood work that my vet has asked for?
I sure can! If your pet is fractious or you are unable to restrain for the blood draw, I can bring another set of hands. I will contact your veterinarian to make sure I have the correct blood tubes and supplies for drawing the sample(s).
I would like my dog's nails trimmed and an anal gland expression. Does my pet need to have a current annual exam for that?
Nope! Just give me a call and we can get you booked for an appointment.
What about cats....do you do nail trims for cats?
Absolutely! I have several clients who book for cat nail trims on a regular basis.
My vet has prescribed subcutaneous fluids for my cat/dog at home, but I'm having trouble giving those. Can you come and give those fluids?
I certainly can help with that. I have had several clients needing these services and it is a pleasure to lend a helping hand.
Do you work with large animals (i.e. horses, goats)?
All of my clinical experience has been with small animals, but I have worked with and owned horses for over 40 years and am comfortable working with them and giving injections. We did own goats when I was growing up, and I am comfortable handling them as well. If you have a need, give me a call and I'll see if I can help.
